Hair Extensions

We are the premier Hair Extension salon here in the SF Bay Area.  We offer a fully customized Hair Extension experience.  We will analyze your hair, your hair type, density, and your lifestyle.  We will then make a suggestion based on that information. Our extension specialists are experienced in all types of Hair Extension installation, such as Hand-Tied (also known as HABIT HAND-TIED EXTENSIONS or NATURAL BEADED ROWS), Tape-In, Beaded Weft, Keratin Bonded, and I-Tip Individuals.

Our hair extension specialists are experienced and highly trained in not only installing your hair extensions but also custom coloring the extensions and your hair to not only match but to look natural.   The most important part of installing hair extensions is creating hair color that blends and looks natural.  Here at Morgan James Salon, we specialize in low-maintenance color and we love to give hair that gorgeous "lived-in" look.  If you are thinking about getting hair extensions or are curious if they might work for your hair, schedule a FREE consultation with one of our extension specialists.

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q:  How much hair will I need to purchase?

A: This is going to depend on your current hair length, style, and thickness.  It is also going to depend on which method of application you're using to install your extensions.  Obviously, clients who have more hair, need more hair installed in order to create a perfect blend.  Also....some short hairstyles require a bit more hair in order to help the hair blend perfectly. Occasionally a client can use 1 pack of hair but MOST of the time it requires 2-3 packs of hair.

With the Tape-In method, it is usually 1-3 packs

Weft hair is usually 2 packs, but occasionally 3 is needed for blending.

Q:  Can the hair I purchase be colored or toned to match my hair perfectly?

A: Yes!  As long as you purchase 100% human hair (WHICH I WILL ALWAYS REQUIRE YOU DO).  Not only can I color it or correct the overall tone, but I can add a smudged root to help soften the look and help it to match better.  (All coloring and toning has an additional fee).  Custom color-matching is the key to natural, beautiful looking hair extensions.

Q:  How long will the hair I purchase last me?  Can I re-use the same hair?

A:  Most of the time you can re-use the hair you purchase at least once.  With REALLY great home care you can probably use good quality hair 2-3 times.  If you purchase poor quality hair, to begin with, and then don't take care of it, you will most likely be purchasing new hair very often.  It is way more cost-effective to make the investment into great hair and re-using it for several months!  I can help you with which hair distributors I have had great results with

Hair Extensions are expensive. In order to protect and extend the life of your extensions, we recommend the following care:

  • Always Wash with sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.

  • Use a lightweight oil on the mid to ends of the hair at least once a day. Keep oil off the root area of hair.   I can suggest several great options.

  • Letting your hair airdry is great, but make sure to blow dry the tape area to ensure no moisture leaks into the tape, causing lifting.

  • Put your hair into a low pony or braid when sleeping.  This will protect the cuticle of the hair.

  • Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase, again this cares for the cuticle of the hair.

  • Brush your extensions with a WET Brush or special Extension brush ALWAYS!  Hold the hair near the root area and brush from the ends of your hair moving upward.

  • Brush a few times a day to prevent tangling.  The more brushing the better.

  • When swimming, coat your hair in conditioner and wear in a braid or loose, high bun.

  • Be aware, saltwater and chlorine can strip hair of color, and can shorten the life of hair extensions.

  • If you are wearing Tape-In Extensions; Do not apply conditioner directly to the tape area.

  • You do not want to "ball up" or "scrunch up" your hair like a child when washing.  You want to stroke the hair in a downward motion, being gentle but still getting them good and clean.  You may massage your scalp with your fingertips but you want to keep it gentle.  There is no need to scrub.  This will diminish the life of your hair.

  • For the TAPE-IN method, you CANNOT wash your hair for at least 48 hours after the extensions have been installed.  If at all possible I suggest 72 hours for the best possible bond but for my clients who have oily hair I know that can be hard so 48 will do.
